Natalie Portman @ Venice Film Festival

Ain't she cute?

Love this look. Natalie Portman always looks so sophisticated at these events. I must say, I'm lovin' the hair!

The makeup:

  • Matte foundation
  • Mid-tone pink cream blush on the apples of the cheeks
  • Chocolate eyeshadow on the lid, mid-tone taupe in crease, natural color to highlight.
  • Black cream or gel liner to line the top lid and top waterline. Also line the bottom waterline, too, but leave the lashline alone.
  • Add a shimmery natural color in the inner corner, near the tear ducts.
  • Lotsa black mascara - add very natural-looking faux lashes if yours are short.
  • Creamy pink lipstick

Teen Choice Awards - FCH Award Winners

Better late than never: the Teen Choice Awards

Totally gratuitous Beckhamness.

LL Cool J (really?) and Natasha Beddingfield.

Natasha| The outfit looks like a librarian playing dress-up, the hair is awful and flat, and the makeup is too nude. They're kids, but they won't be stunned by fashionable clothes and a bit of lipstick.

Minka Kelly and Zac Effron

Minka | Snore.
Zac | How do you always look like a Madame Tussauds of yourself?

Miranda Cosgrove, Jojo, and Selena Gomez

Leave it to the teens to dress appropriately for their own event! The only downside: the adorable Selena's ginormous hair.

Lauren Conrad

Lauren | Very shiny skin, hon. You look like you were sweating being that close to Brian Austin Green or something. And thank goodness for Hollywood Fashion Tape, huh?

Jesse McCartney and Jordin Sparks

Jordin | GORGEOUS look. Love the hair, the skin, the shoes! The shirt is a bit dressed-down, but otherwise I want to be her!

Demi Lavato

Demi | Just like your adorable best friend (Selena Gomez - on the right again just because she's so cute!), you're stunning! The outfit and makeup are completely age- and situation-appropriate, too. A+

Hayden Panetierre

Hayden | Phenomenal, and I'm not even a fan!

Tia Mowry

Tia | Love the shoes, bag, makeup and jewelry but the hair looks too newscaster-ish, and the dress is a bad 80's throwback.

Fergie

Fergie | Please dial it down with the tanning, be it spray or fake-n-bake or rompin' on the beach w/ Josh. I don't care for the dress, either, but it's better than the tan. Sigh...

Celebrity Looks: Kelly Ripa @ the launch of her Hamptons Mag cover

Celebrity Looks: Kelly Ripa @ the launch of her Hamptons Magazine Cover

The new poster-girl for the Hamptons - a popular home-away-from-home for Manhattan's finest - is Kelly Ripa who does her nouveau-Martha-Stewart-happy-homemaker routine from there as often as possible.

To officially mark her as the Queen of the Hamptons (or for some other reason - probably to make sure the right folks get invited to her parties), Ms. Ripa is on the latest cover of Hamptons Magazine. Natch, a launch party was planned and here are some shots from it...

I think Kelly's look here is lovely: classic summertime bronzey without going overboard. What do you think? I do wish she'd stay out of the sun (or tanning booth). Did you notice the tanlines?

At any rate, I think she looks tons better at the launch party than she does on the cover...

Ripa_cover

...because that smokey eye is too much and her eyebrows look weird. I like a more under-stated Kelly, personally. I love the idea of her - and all women- aging gracefully and not air-brushing out crinkly eyes and other signs of normalcy, but I will say I don't think her makeup artist did her a favor by calling attention to them with these shadow choices and the overdone false lashes!

Well, Kell... as much as I want to hate your perky ass, I just can't. I think you rock! Keep it up.

Get the look: Anne Hathaway

GET THE LOOK (and Get Smart!): Anne Hathaway

Girls and guys, you probably don't know this, but many bloggers just pop text from a press release or email into their blogs and never tell you. I have never done that before - but I already told you I'm on a borrowed computer and on borrowed time because I'm on the way out of town... And so a (sad) FCH First: I'm going to do a quickie here and just put in the email I got about this look. But I'm such a fan of Anne Hathaway's and of Lancome's, and I wanted you to see this, so I AM SORRY and I will never do this again unless I'm in dire straits. Hopefully when I come home I'll be able to give you some artistry tips to help you get this look and give you some alternate product options. For now, I present: Anne Hathaway...

Kam_1096_3

"Last Thursday, Lancôme hosted a special screening of Get Smart with Anne Hathaway at the private Core Club in New   York City. The screening benefited the Lollipop Theater Network, an amazing charitable organization with which Anne is highly involved. By providing first-run movies, volunteers like Anne bring cheer to children with serious illnesses who sadly miss seeing these films in the theater due to their long hospital stays. As Lancôme’s newest ambassadress and the face of Magnifique (the fragrance that debuts this August), Anne made us proud as she mingled with guests and talked to them about her involvement with the charity.

Celebrity makeup artist Julie Harris did Anne’s makeup for the screening and gave us the scoop on how to recreate the look. Anne has the most gorgeous porcelain skin (she’s a major proponent of sunscreen) so Julie played up her eyes, cheeks and lips. She used Lancôme black liquid Artliner on the upper lash line to make Anne’s eyes pop and added a few coats of Lancôme Hypnôse mascara, giving her lashes a beautiful boost of volume and length. Julie added just a touch of color to the apples of the cheeks with Giorgio Armani Sheer Cream Blush #2. She set the look by dusting Laura Mercier translucent powder all over Anne’s face. Julie opted for a soft neutral colored pout and finished the look with Lancôme Color Design Lipcolor in B-List. Check out the attached photo of Anne at the screening."

FCH Makeup-Artistry Minute: Sex and The City makeup breakdown

FCH Makeup-Artistry Minute: Sex and The City makeup breakdown

Love the girls? I know I do. And despite the crappy critics' reviews, I loved this movie! And, being a makeup artist, one of the things I was concentrating on (while most of you were looking at the shoes) was the gorgeous makeup! The flushed cheeks, the impeccable eyes, the soft lip shades (except in the wedding scene)...   Wanna know how it was done? Click through the jump!

Have you seen these? HOT!

Christina01
Christina02

Christina Aguilera will be the spokesmodel for jeweler (and friend) Stephen Webster. The above are the images, shot in July when Christina was 4-months pregnant. The inspiration for the ads was Hitchcock - you may recognize the posing from Rear Window and Dial M for Murder? Read on past the jump for images from the movies...

What do you think of Christina's look? Is the retro look over, or should she rock it as long as she can? What are your opinions of the makeup?

Super Bowl beauty!

First, I must say: Go Giants. I won't pretend I'm a huge football fan, but when I watch it's always the Giants. (OK, and the Ravens!) Thanks to an annoying but dear friend, I have followed the Giants for years, and have grown to be a fan...

79496907

Second, I wanted to showcase some looks from the Super Bowl. Yes, there was makeup to be seen at the game! Note to Jordin Sparks: Cute look! Love the hair, the outfit and the makeup - very sophisticated and lovely. Note to Alicia Keys: fire your makeup artist and stylist, you look like a hooker.

79496102

Jordin appears to be wearing a soft plum and purple eye, neutral lips and a pretty satin-like skin. Brows were a bit heavy for her, considering her age, but still she looked very pulled-together and classy.

79495187

These pants were not the only unfortunate decision involved in getting Alicia to the Super Bowl. No, I'm not talking about the top, which was also cheap. I meant the makeup! Alicia is such a gorgeous girl that they should have gone with the less-is-more theory of makeup instead of worrying about making her face completely visible to the dude in the nosebleed section. Lips would have been ok if paired with more neutral eyes. The eyes were tragic no matter how you look at them: that white stripe of liner or shadow along the upper lashline is so tacky! This was a fashion for about 1 minute months ago, and now is mocked by most makeup artists I know. Pitiful. The hair was nice, though...

79495596

Somewhat random that Kate Hudson was there at the pregame, but that's not why she's here. She's on this page because she's a pretty girl in a bad outfit! Trying to stay warm is one thing, but looking dumpy when you're only 100 pounds is bad... and she could have brushed her hair, ya know?

79495638

79495292

I have sort of a girl-crush on Maria Menounos, who always looks beautiful! I don't agree with her football choices, but love the very event-appropriate outfit, cute hoop earrings, and perfect makeup. A+ from Fifty-centHead!

79495242

In pro sports, makeup isn't just for the ladies! The Super Bowl: where men are men, and some of them have porn mustaches (and hair)!

Blame it on Posh!

Everyone is chopping their hair off, and I'm just loving it. I'm so tired of seeing tons of women who look the same. It's either the really long, slightly-mussed waves, or it's stick-straight bra strap skimming locks. YAWN!

But now - and blame it on Victoria Beckham if you must pass blame - trends are setting the pulses of hairstylists everywhere racing!

Frankly, I don't blame Posh- I completely take responsibility for this trend, as I chopped my hair off into a sexy pixie cut several months ago. But my stunning hair and uncanny tendency to set trends aside, this is definitely something new to watch!

2008 SAG Awards

The 2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards were last night, and the stars were out on the red carpet looking good! Well, and some weren't looking too great, but I'll save that for later.

For my money, the best looking women were these two amazing creatures! Angelina Jolie is flawless (and maybe has an extra glow from her alleged pregnancy - twins are being suggested by some sources!). And America Ferrera is truly beautiful: classy, sophisticated, but still sports a young look.

Sharon Stone at Sundance

79203174

This is Sharon Stone at Sundance. I'm not sure I know how I feel about this look she's got going on. Do you have an opinion?

Lemme tell ya what I'm thinkin':

  1. I love a dark eyeshadow with light eyes- the contrast is striking.
  2. I love a woman with the confidence to carry off short hair.
  3. I like a pale lip with a dark eye.
  4. I like a strong-ish eyebrow - it's youthful.
  5. I do not like eye makeup this dark in what looks to be a daytime outfit - it's confusing.
  6. I don't like this lip on her - what's wrong with it? Why don't I like it!? I'm not terribly sure... I know I don't quite like it.
  7. This is too much mascara.
  8. Sharon's skin is way too matte here. I'd like to see a little light reflection. Just a bit!
  9. I'm not pleased with the orange-y cheeks and the pink lip combo. This doesn't happen in nature, so it shouldn't happen in makeup. It's visually confusing. Besides, it looks dirty.
  10. The hair is unfortunate.

So, to redeem it:

  1. Add some shimmer to the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, forehead.
  2. Add some shimmer or depth to the lip- it doesn't have to be too shiny or too colorful, it just needs a little tweak.
  3. Tone down the mascara- maybe fewer than 12 coats? ;)
  4. Dial the eyes down about 2 notches, but still the same color placement and technique.
  5. Rosy blush on her cheeks.
  6. Hair extensions? A cut? Hell: a headband! SOMETHING. That's just tragic.

Take a look at the pic below and imagine this hair, this skin, this lip with that smoky eye above (or slightly softer!). Perfection!

Your thoughts?

Celebrity Looks: Pamela Anderson 1/08

79128600I'm starting a new feature on this blog, where we look at some celebrity/model/runway looks and see what we like and what we don't- what's relatable, translatable into real life.

I'm starting with Pamela Anderson Lee Lee Rock Solomon here, and despite the grimace (and trust me- most of the photos Getty had of her were like this- drunk? drugged? ill?) and all of the mess that seems to be going on in her life, I just want to talk about the makeup.

Read on for dissection of this look and a few more pics...
