Fashion Week and The Oscars have just passed, and they leave in their wake a bunch of new nail trends we'll be seeing and trying in 2009. And we've seen a lot of news from other bloggers, too, which must be recapped! This will be a jampacked issue of New in Nails!
- Take a look at the artificial nails used during the Thakoon show! Beauty Blogging Junkie tells you more about how CND got the look here . Beauty School's coverage of the show, including face charts from NARS is here. For a great interview that gets the behind-the-scenes scoop on the inspiration for the look (and more pictures!), visit All Lacquered Up.
- This retro nail look, seen above, was actually inspired by a 1936 issue of Vogue, according to Fashionista.com. CND adapted the idea, orginally shown with a coral nail and nude moon, for several shows. Image below courtesy of Fashionista.com.
- Scrangie shows us some images from the BB Couture for Nails, and they're hawt. Find out if she likes the polishes (and see 2 more colors) by reading her article, here. Below: left, Dragon's Breath; right, Frosty Meadow.
- Again, Scrangie. She's made me want these pretty colors and chunky glitter polishes, despite the fact that the glitters are completely silly and not at all age-appropriate. She's magic, that girl. She should be hired by the nail polish companies to create lemmings. At any rate, here are some Nicole by OPI colors she picked out for Valentine's Day. Naturally, they're not on the Nicole website, so I'll have to scrounge around for them at the stores around town. GRR! Read her coverage of these colors here, and of course there are more pictures, too! - Essie waved the starter flag for Mercedez Benz Fashion Week to give us two hot shades. "Blacker Series" and "Palladium Silver" are tributes to the launch of the Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, and the shades were "only available in the gift bags". HA! GlamBlush lets us in on the big secret, though - Essie's Licorice is "Blacker Series" and Essie's Loophole is "Palladium Silver", so you can still grab em and hit the roads... - All Lacquered Up shows us that the car theme wasn't just an Essie thing. Butter London created a color exclusively for the Vena Cava show, but if you love it don't worry: it will be released in the Fall! However, a new trend for Fall is matte nails, so you'll want to read the story over at All Lacquered Up to find out how this color, seen below, was tweaked to fit the trend. Below, check out British Racing Green, courtesy of All Lacquered Up:
- Scrangie, though under-the-weather, is still posting (what at trouper!). She shares some quickie swatches of Nicole by OPI's new Spring collection. There are quite a few more images on Scrangie's post, so if you're intrigued please go read 'em! From left: Light a Candle, Play Fair, and on the bottom, Positive Energy. I've been craving a silver metallic polish, so I may check out these - especially the slightly purpley version of silver: Light A Candle.
- Scrangie also swatched China Glaze's Summer Days collection for us. All of the shades have China Glaze's signature glass fleck. Here are a few images, but be sure to check Scrangie for more pics. Top: the collection; Middle left- Raspberry Festival, and middle right -Watermelon Rind, bottom: Orange Marmalade.
I know I love the glass fleck polishes from China Glaze (my favorite polish company), and I'm truly lemming a silver or platinum polish. But I don't think I'm going to rock the black-and-white nail - at least I am having a hard time figuring out how it will fit into my Library-Storytime-and-Playgroup lifestyle! ;)
So what do YOU think? See some colors you must snap up? Unimpressed by any of it? Got a scoop I haven't covered? SHARE WITH THE CLASS!
