Many of these things I have heard straight from the mouth of a MAC MUA. Others are seen and heard around the web...
This Fall heralds a new back-to-our-origins theory behind the new collections. MAC finally has realized that what worked so well in the beginning was that artist-inspired style (hello, maybe because Illamasqua, Make Up For Ever, and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics are stealing the hearts of artists and hardcore makeup junkies!?). Read: bolder colors, getting back to more pro-like products, and basically taking it back to the ground level - where MAC began and set the standards for everything we know and love!
- An all-black collection!
- Nail lacquers are coming...
- Dazzleglasses back... but for how long?
- Another designer collaboration...
- "Back to basics" - what does that mean?
- If you love Kohl Power liners, you'll be happy!
- Hullo - what's this? Bright pigments!?
- Shiny black liner!
- News on an insta-Cult Classic from last year... will we see it again?
- At least one new kind of lip gloss, maybe two!
- If you love Cream Color Bases (CCBs), read on.
- Will there be new quads?
- New Viva Glam on the way?
- I wanna get my gold on.
Find out more after the cut.
- Dazzleglass will become permanent, and one of the new perm shades is my favorite: FUNTABULOUS. My source says she think Date Night is going to be perm, too (another of my faves). I'll see what other names I can weasel out of her.
- I loves me some nail polish, as you know! MAC is collaborating with Jin Soon and we'll see 6 new polishes. Are these the matte polishes we've been hearing about?
- The rumored all-black collection is not fiction, as some blogs have reported. We will see it this Fall, and it's apparently called Style Black. The collection is not strictly "all-black",
rather all colors with a black base. So, can we expect black-based
lipglass or Dazzleglass with riotous multi-colored glitter? Apparently! I've heard there's definitely a black-based Dazzleglass. There's also a black lipstick.
Specktra reports:+ "A new type of gloss called Dazzlecream. It's creamy, has 3 different types of pearl pigment and sheer color. Sounds like Creemsheens and Dazzleglass melded into one. Yum."
+ "Bat Pro CCB and one other new black based CCB"
+ "black Mattene, as well as other black, burgundy and greyish lipsticks"
Charlotte Tilbury's makeup for Donna Karan's Fall runway show showed us a gold-flecked black gloss on the eyes (A new product, or a lip product re-purposed? We shall see but my money is on it being in this collection.). The Diesel show reportedly used products from the line, too: "The intense, black, smoky eyes were created with a M.A.C. Eye Liner Pencil (also popular at other shows) called "Smolder," on the top, bottom. [Charlotte] Tilbury then added an overlay of M.A.C. "Blackware" Gloss to give the eyes a wet, lived-in look." source
Speculate with me! What other dream products can we dream about? Well, black-based eyeshadows with various shimmers - but please could they not be chalky!? I am sure we'll see some black-based pigments, too. Maybe a version of Reflects Glitter or two? Black sparkle polishes!? Specktra-ites are wishing for a black-purple duochrome eyeshadow, a patent-shine liner, more Kohl Power liners, and a black shadow with pink shimmer among other things. What do YOU want to see?
PS: my source says none of them will be repromotes! Interesting...
Rumored to be at least one product from the MAC All-Black collection.
As seen in Vivienne Westwood's Fall '09 show. source
Apparently the black shadow used here is called
Cinderfella.
LOVE!

- A collaboration with twin designers D Squared2 seems to be in the works. There's some speculation that the all-black collection IS the D Squared2 collection. We'll have to see... I'll dig for more scoop. Meanwhile, note the D Squared2 logo on the pic just above!
Specktra's MAC_Whore tells us that the two collections are separate, and gives us this info:
*See below for more info on this product+ "Another shot at picking up a Feline Kohl Power for those who are desperately lemming.
+"At least 2 new lipsticks"
+ "The new grease paint stick*, which is a water/smudge resistant black liner that has a glossy appearance".
- Greasepaint Sticks. Greasepaint is a nice, pigmented, thick makeup used on stage. Doesn't this sound a bit makeup artist-y? Take a look at a nice black Greasepaint Stick below. Looks a bit like a Shadestick, but I am assuming it's more richly pigmented and maybe more slick or wet looking? I dunno. can't wait to see, though. Rumor has it that there's a Violet and an Aqua coming in this new product, too. To through some confusion into the swirling rumors, the Greasepaint Stick prototype seen by someone is said to say "D Squared2 on it.
As mentioned above, here's what Specktra's MAC_Whore said about this: "...a water/smudge resistant black liner that has a glossy appearance." Sweet, if it doesn't smudge or crease.
- Guess what? There's a theme emerging for Fall. Rumor has it there's some photography-themed collections coming. Since there are a few names getting bandied about, my guess is they're for the Winter/Holiday collections, but that's just me speculating. The names I've heard: Skintone, Private Viewing, and Photo Realism. source
- Probably related to the collection immediately above, we can expect a collection with the name Makeup Art Cosmetics. Am I
the only one hoping for nice strong intense colors like in the olden
days of MAC? And more edginess (the all-black is a start!).
Apparently, this collection was created through collaboration with 3 different kinds of artists: an illustrator, a painter and a photographer. one of my sources is here, the other was verbal and wants to stay anonymous.
- I have tons of eyeshadows, so I don't usually jump all over quads, but there are 3 new palettes on the horizon that have me interested. They are probably related to the two above items - the artist collaboration. The whispers are we can expect one with purples, one with greens, and one with oranges and corals or, depending on your source the 3rd one is all neutrals. I can say for a certain that I will be all up on that coral one! Apparently, some people are saying they're part of the photography collection, so again: Holiday 2009, perhaps?
- Hey, try not to scream out loud if you're at work reading this: Volcanic Ash Exfoliator is coming back, and it's not only back but BETTER! "How could it be better!?", ask the fanatics, scratching their heads. This time, it's in a squeezey tube, rather than in a pot, which means more hygenic application. We'll see what the VAE fans have to say, but one thing is for sure: this sucker will sell out FAST.
- I'm not the only one who's nuts for Dazzleglass. I already told you they're coming on board as perm, but what do you think if I tell you they're getting sisters!? How do you feel about a more pigmented, creamy Dazzleglass-like lippie? Think lacquer or cream with that Dazzle-shimmer! I've heard "Glimmerglass" and "Dazzleglass Creme" - they may be the same thing, or maybe we're looking at two different products. My guess is "Glimmerglass" is the product name, and "Dazzleglass cream" is a description. Time will tell. Since I'm probably not alone in layering my Dazzleglass over creamy lipglosses and/or lipsticks for more oomph, I think we can all agree this will be worth checking out!
- Two names are being paired with MAC's, so can we expect an Icon coming? Or a new Viva Glam promotion? The names: Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga.
From RollingStone: "While describing Lady GaGa's hectic schedule, author Brian Hiatt says, "... [In New York] she'll shoot a M.A.C. Cosmetics campaign with [Cyndi] Lauper..." and "Later in the article, he describes a photoshoot where '...Marilyn Monroe is singing "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" on a photo-studio sound system, and Lady Gaga and a youthful-looking Cyndi Lauper are staddling giant pink lipstick tubes as flashbulbs pop. "It's like a penis!" Gaga says, playing the igenue. They're wearing near-matching Jetsons-style red dresses , and Lauper keeps giving her younger counterpart little tips in her thick New York accent: "Put your leg out like that, it's more flattering. Arch your back! Stick out your butt and puff your chest." "She's a doll," Lauper says of Gaga afterward.' " source
Since they're wearing red, I suspect another Viva Glam promotion. I hope it's new shades! It's been awhile for a proper release (of course, not counting the SE Fergie shades).
NOTE: Didn't Dita already do the ride-the-phallic-Viva-Glam-lipstick thing? I am opposed to people trying to outdo Dita. It can't be done...
- Everyone's talking about black, but I spotted this incredible look and want to know the scoop on this stunning gold! Take a peek:
Have you heard any rumors? Please share with us!
And stay tuned, too, 'cause artists are in the process of going to Update, so we'll start hearing more soon...
