Damn. I misread (?) the contest rules for Mizz Worthy's contest, "Think Outside the Box". The rules said the contest ended at midnight, Wednesday, December 17th. Well, Wednesday (today) is the 16th. I centered in on the date rather than the day, and so while I had done some posts I didn't have them posted in time. Damn, damn, damn.
Anyway, here's what I came up with for entry #2, for what good it does me. :(
The exercise was liberating and inspiring, so it was worth it!
Inspiration
I was doing a few "conceptual" ideas, but I believe I was over-thinking them a bit without enough time to actually get them done to my liking (it's hard to do complex makeup looks with two little kids!). So this is more of a "just let loose" look. I decided to focus on the features I like about my face an use flattering colors in a new way. Anyway, it's not the most over-the-top look, but I quite like it!
Eyes
I have a love-hate relationship with my brows. They aren't always well-behaved! At the moment, they're working the best they have in ages, so I'm quite pleased. I decided to accent them with a a blue-green shadow. Since I'm a mom, I'm often tired and thought a flattering lavender would perk up the under eye area (as a wide-ish stripe of liner in the center), especially paired with white liner applied heavily in the corners and both waterlines! I also brightened the lid with white and put a shimmery yellow-beige through the crease and above. Highlight above the brow helped accent their current nice arch.
Lips
Boy I love doing multi-color lips! Please let this be a trend that takes off in my lifetime! :)
Here, I pulled purple, white, silver and blue-green together to make a flattering melange of shades (in my opinion). Clear gloss helped everything blend and shine! I liked using the purple to contour the lips and really make them pouty, while the green in the center really tied the eye makeup into the look.
Face
I'm mad for Urban Decay's Grifter, a lilac-lavender-light-pinky-purple shadow. I find it particularly flattering to my skintone, so I used it to blush the cheeks, temples and forehead. Meh, maybe it's not so hot on the forehead, but I loved the way it looked on the cheeks!
I found this exercise REALLY freeing! So much fun to really fall in love with color again by looking at it in a new way...
