We've all been there before. You carefully apply your eye makeup, and take a step back only to realize it's just way too dark, sharp-edged or otherwise heavy-handed. Those are the good days. On the bad days, this makeup villain only makes itself known in the restroom mirror at work or in the rearview while driving to an important meeting (or date!).
Don't panic! We know just what to do to make it all better!
Sometimes no makeup is better than bad makeup. Is this one of those times? If so, wipe off the makeup and start again. Don't have time? Press on some powder, curl your lashes, and move on. Better luck next time!
Can it be salvaged? If you think it can, follow these steps:
- Take your finger or a tissue and gently rub away some of the shadow that has gone too high and/or too wide.
- Take pressed powder and blend it over the margins of the existing shadow. Use your finger if that's all you have! Sometimes that's enough.
- If you have some concealer, press it on under the brow. For goodness' sake, don't toss shiny highlighter up there!
- Need more help? If you have a camel colored matte shadow or a midtone brown matte shadow, grab it! Use a brush to blend the brown into the darker color so it starts to fade into the skin. (Try MAC's Saddle, the perfect "bridge" shade)
- Resist the urge to use anything wet to try to remove some of the dark shade! You will more than likely end up with mud.
- Dusting some pressed powder on the brows (lightly!) and then combing through can help diffuse too-dark brow color.
I keep a little concealer in my bag at all times. I scoop a bit out and put it in a pill container, so I don't have to tote the whole container around. Perfect for fending off villains like this one or The Smudge Eyeliner Villain!
