Immediate thoughts: VILF. Like "a MILF", but with vampires. While I've no issue with the amazing label art on this series, done by Julie Dillon, I prefer to think of someone else when I hear the name VILF.
When wet: There's definitely leather marching at the front of this parade, and stomping right after it is smoke, sweet-smelling patchouli, and pepper. The cedar is there, but not boldly (for which I'm thankful). Stomping and marching are apt verb choices here, as this scent opens with a bang. It's not harsh or rude or cloying, but it's definitely there in a prominent way.
Later: A touch of leathery smoke swirling around something sweetly peppery. The scent stays quite similar to the wet stage, but it's not as intense. The musk and florals have stepped in and are changing the scent -for the better, in my opinion- rounding it out, softening the hard edges a bit. This is the stage where I expected the cloves to take control, but they do not. They exert themselves somewhat but do not take the lead. By the way, I sometimes catch a bit of an almost ozone-y smell in this stage. Weird.
Later still: Red sandalwood, red musk, and that lovely patchouli are what I smell now, with a pinch of clove and the ever present leather.
Reflections: I love red musk (espeically in BPAL scents). I love red sandalwood. I love patchouli if it's well-done (this one is). I love vanilla if it doesn't smell like cake (this doesn't). I love the florals in this blend. I love smokey goodness. Unfortunately, I don't love the way this scent works on me at the beginning (wet and drying). However, I do love this perfume as it sinks into the skin, where it stays for hours and hours. None of the notes in VILF is predominant on my skin, though the leather is always present and accounted for. A very well-done scent, though this isn't one that makes me think of sex. It's a cozy day with a steamy mug of coffee in front of the fireplace scent, to me.
Thanks, BPAL, for sending me these bottles to review.
