I mentioned before that I was freelancing for Bobbi Brown. What fun! It's such a nice line and works on any skintone or skintype and (yay!) skin color. While you can create any look you desire with Bobbi Brown makeup, there is a certain look that typifies "a Bobbi woman".
Let's take a look...
- Glowing skin (not foundation)
- Flushed, pink cheeks
- A natural but healthy lip color
- Eyeliner
Most importantly, you see what is unique and beautiful about each woman.
Those are the keys to the Bobbi look. Sure, you can go super-natural or sexy and dramatic, but whatever look you choose, these are the keys to "being Bobbi". Well, except the lipstick thing -- a dramatic lip is ok from time to time. ;)

To get the look
- Skincare is king!
Bobbi wants every woman to be her own skincare specialist. At the counter, you'll be educated on how to evaluate your own skin each day and take appropriate action. Some mornings you'll be a bit dry, others you'll fall in the normal range, and sometimes oil shows up. Select the appropriate skincare for a flawless base.
- Bring out the best in your complexion with concealer and foundation
You're gorgeous. Let's accentuate that by evening your tone.
- Bobbi's Corrector is a range of pink, salmonish, and peach undereye correcctors. They cancel out purple, grey or blue undereye circles. This goes on over a hydrated eye and for me is a MUST, no matter what look I'm doing.
- Pat a yellow-based Concealer over the Corrector. This brightens the undereye, so you want to pick a shade one-to-two levels lighter than your skintone.
- Attached to the Concealer is a yellow-based powder, specifically designed to absorb the oils from the Corrector and Concealer. Use a fluffy brush to roll the powder on.
- Face Touch-up Stick is perfect for dabbing around the nose, where most of us have some color that needs to be evened out. It should be used over blemishes and other red areas or bits you want to hide.
- Foundation next, but only where you need it. No one will know it's not all over your face because it matches your skintone exactly.
- Bring warmth back to the skin with bronzer, if necessary
Your Bobbi artist will help you pick the right bronzer, which will match the tones in your chest and neck. Use it to bring back the warmth in your skin and to bring color to the area under your chin.
- Apply your bronzer onto the cheeksbones, forehead, chin, bridge of the nose, under the chin and on the throat.
NOTE: Just because there is a "medium" and "dark" (among other shades) doesn't mean it goes by depth of skin color. I'm actually a "medium" even though I'm almost as fair as a gal can be! Bobbi bronzers are meant to color-correct and return warmth so tone is most important.
ANOTHER NOTE: The Illuminating Bronzers have shimmer and are meant to be cheek color, not to be used in this fashion.
- Apply your bronzer onto the cheeksbones, forehead, chin, bridge of the nose, under the chin and on the throat.
- Cheeks must be flushed!
If you haven't worn a bronzer, you will be advised to put on two cheek colors:
- A natural and neutral color should be placed on the apples of the cheeks (smile!). Sweep your brush downward, towards the chin, and then blend back towards the hairline.
- A "pop of color" is added high on the apples of the cheeks. Select a bright shade for this step.
- Lips are next
- Every day lipstick shades should match the natural color of the lip or be slightly darker.
- Use your lip liner after the lipstick to correct any imbalance in lip shape and to prevent feathering.
- Brows frame the face
- Fill in sparse areas and correct the shape by filling in with a shadow that matches the tone of your hair (on your head).
- Use light, feathery strokes.
- The basic Bobbi Eye
- A very light, flat (matte) shade of eyeshadow should be applied to the lid from lashline to brow. This brightens the eye area.
- A medium shade of shadow (flat or shimmery - your choice) should be applied to the lid, from lashline to crease.
- Eyeliner should be visible when the eye is open
- Dampen your eyeliner brush then pick up a dark shadow and apply it to the upper lashline.
- Or use a gel liner with the Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush (it has synthetic bristles and is the only eyeliner brush I use now!).
- If you choose to line the lower lashline, be sure the upper and lower lines meet in the outer corner.
- Mascara
This is the last step! Two coats, please. :)
