Remember the other day when I showed you the new Make-up Designory kit called Love at First Sight? I've been playing with it a bit and I have some swatches to show you, and a review.
Overall, I'm more impressed than I thought I'd be. The pictures in the press release looked lovely, but when I got the kit in the mail I misjudged the lipgloss and underestimated some of the shadows. The blush, which I thought I'd like, wasn't my favorite. To find out which piece of this kit was, keep reading!
Let's start with the blush, shall we? Sweet Cheeks Color Crème Blush is a fairly neutral pinky shade with a modicum of brown. It was a bit difficult to work with at first, going on streaky when applied with fingers. I managed to get the right amount on, evenly, when I used my MAC 188 brush, but the truth of the matter is I prefer putting on this type of product with my fingers. The color wore well, pretty comparable with other blushes of its ilk.
The lipgloss, Cupid, looks a bit more yellow-pink than I like. Or at least I thought it did. In the tube and as a swatch, I was less than pleased. However, on the lips it was perfection! I've been using it daily since I got the kit. Daily! That's major. It wears like most glosses (a few hours or so), isn't tacky, and applies smoothly. I dislike the applicator (I prefer wands), but life isn't perfect.
The palette worried me. The midtone pink seemed awfully warm. The plum looked like it could be chalky. The charcoal read as black. The white was weird. Then I swatched...
- Pink Grapefruit: Yes, the pink isn't "my kind of color" but it's nice, matte, smooth, and goes on well. It's going into my kit.
- Graphite: The charcoal is more black than grey, and is a bit dusty, but it makes a nice liner and adds dimension when blended on top of other shades. I'm lukewarm on it.
- Vineyard: The plum is quite lovely and goes right into the kit! Smooth and shimmery, but without glitter or scratchiness. Very nice.
- Opal Sky: The sleeper in the whole set is that "white". Duuuuude! It's actually an amazing frosty white-blue-lavender duo-tri-chrome surprise! Amazing. Excellent. Fab. (I'm a fan.)
Note: the kit is no longer showing on the MUD website but the good news is each of these products is available singly on the site!
